Getting Ready

So I'm getting ready to leave Seattle for Saudi.  Well, getting ready means, I'm preparing for the long relocation process.    Part of the preparation process is getting my blog set up because I HAVE to document this BS.  I mean really, Saudi Arabia.  WTF!!!!  I told his ass (my husband) that I would move anywhere with him but the following spots are out of the question:  down south in the United States (basically, any of the confederate states), Africa, or the Middle East.  And, where do I end up...in Saudi Arabia, the most restrictive of all the Islamic countries.   BTW:  They still have beheadings in the town square in Riyadh.  So...I will be on my best behavior.  =)  Seriously.

As of now I'm leaving on December 28, 2008.

Stay Tuned!

Saudi Arabia has come to be our home we love. We too work for Aramco, as does your husband. We love it here, and wish we would have left the sewer of what we thought was a good place to live back home sooner. Yes there is the occasional beheading for capital crimes. However we feel free to walk around anywhere in Saudi at any time of day. Knowing that no one is pressuring our kids into drugs, or pedophiles living next door to us unknown is a great piece of mind. No one is forcing you to go through all this "BS", and "WTF" are you coming here for if you don't want too?? People who come over here with such a negative attitude, never end up enjoying it here. My advice to you is to think twice before coming over here, from your negativity already without even stepping foot on the soil here. You may be happier if you stay home, but maybe you are one of those people who are only happy if you have something to grip about.

OK. Apparently "Anonymous" has some chip on their shoulder and no balls to leave their name for intelligent discussion. My attitude is not negative, in fact I'm looking forward to the move. However, just like any other person moving to such an extremely different culture, I'm concerned. Unlike you, I'm not running from the supposed pedophiles, that in your fearful mind live next door, I'm actually going for the experience and the adventure. The tone of my blog is honest and real, if you can't handle that, don't come back to it.

I think it is an adventure for many and a new way of life for others. Some embrace it, some can't, but I think that in the long run many have come to the conclusion that it was a good, no, a great move. Granted, there are many "freedoms" that you may be used to that you will not find here, but on the other hand, the sense of security, camaraderie, adventure, family, etc., may be second to none elsewhere. One thing that you will soon find is that many Aramcons (Aramco employees) would think twice, three times, before criticizing Aramco in any way, shape, or form...at least publicly, as there may be consequences. You are a guest in their country, an employee, and as such you are expected to behave accordingly and with respect towards their bureaucratic organization and what may seem as "backward" customs. Your comments (e.g., BS and WTF) may be seen by others as rude, I don't. You are not moving to California (even though I may use the same comments if moving to CA!), so a degree of concern and trepidation is expected. Enjoy the adventure and make the best of it!!

Al quatani,

Thanks for stopping by. Wow...you stating at the beginning in reading my blog. I do have a few Saudi friends...and I mean 1 or 2. However, I do know more than that. And, every Saudi that I know (meaning I've hung out with them at a party or something) even if we're not "friends" are cool. So...do be angry ;-) And...if you keep reading (my blog that is), you'll find out exactly where I'm at.

Peace!
