Getting Down To The Wire

We're almost down to the wire. I have 21 more work days left (whoohoo!!), and with the holiday's approaching, I have to get active real soon. So much to get prepared for packing, plus I have some significant purchases I have to make before I get up out. Items I will need and will want to get into the "They're paying for it" relo shipment, for example new appliances, electronics, and video equipment. I was going to buy an abaya via the internet, but Roland suggested I wait until I get there and he can film me shopping for one (gotta video everything when you're making a documentary, whether you use it or not). I really should talk to other female expats already there...as I will want a "cute" one; not a tent. LOL

My husband is having problems with the Swedish consulate with getting his new passport. We're in Seattle, and this passport has gone from the Swedish embassy in Riyadh, to the one in Los Angeles...and we're now waiting for it to arrive in Seattle. BTW: His Visa Block appointment with the Saudi embassy in Houston was for today. ARGH!!!!!!!!!! Government bureaucracy is the same all over the world!!
I've been so busy with this move that I've been unable to make any Soapbox Empress videos. I've actually had a few people ask when the next one is coming out, since I haven't posted one in a while. I plan to kick that back into gear once I get settled. Two different projects...PLEASE NOTE: I will not use Soapbox Empress to "talk shit" about the Saudi's.

Oh I feel your excitement. I am very happy for you. But I would caution you to be prepared for a lonely and frustrated time if you go prepared to be miserable. ....Sorry I was reading Law of Attraction today. lol

As a big mouth, opinionated, black Muslim woman myself, I understand your apprehension.

In all things be grateful.

I wish you the best and a safe trip.

Take care,
D

Hello D,

Actually...I'm excited about the move and ready for the adventure. This isn't my 1st living outside of the US and I already have friends (expats) living in the KSA...so I expect my transition to go rather smoothly...although I suspect I may affect some type of drama.

Thanks for the comments and the well wishes.

They have some great abyas, you can even create your own designs with crystals if you want. You don't have to get a 'tent'. You might just want to get any old one at first, take a look around the shops, find a design you want and a good price (they have amerian prices and non american prices)

not sure what appliances your planning on buying, for most stuff you can find here at decent prices. If your a crock pot cooker bring your own. You should also think of warranties, what you buy there your on your own here if it breaks. Same thing with cameras if your planning, better to buy them here as they prices are comparable if not cheaper for some things and you'll have warranty coverage here.

my advice, stack up on linens, any american spices your used to cooking with. Any over the counter meds you normally take (I stock up on tylenol and kids cold meds)

do not bring your tvs they won't work here and your dvd player will be limited to dvd options as well.
