I'm Back................

I've been back in Saudi Arabia for a week now. It's always hard for me to get back on track with everything (workouts, assignments, projects, etc.) when I've been gone for 4 weeks...this time I was gone for 8 weeks. So...I'm way outta whack and off track. 8 weeks of nothing to do except for what you want to do. So...I over indulged in everything that I like to do. LOL. One of those things being Mexican food. I love, love, love Mexican food. Oh Yea...and cookies and cupcakes. I didn't over do the cupcakes too much...but the other stuff....gawd...I was all over it. And, guess what? I brought some of it back with me in the form of 15 extra pounds of fat on my stomach, ass, and thighs. The good news is that I've already lost 4 of the 15 pounds. I have to lose the other 11 pounds before 5/20. I'm not concerned...I know I can do it.

See...what happens is this...while in SA I can never (okay, hardly ever) find the really good stuff that I like. I think anyone who is living away from home, has certain things they miss. So..when I'm about to go home, all I can think about is....I'm going to Mama Testa's (Mexican food) or Uncle Biffs (cookies) or Cupcake Royale or King's Fish House, or.....So, you can see how I can easily put it on...then when I wasn't eating...I was lounging. I did a lot a travel back and forth between San Diego, Los Angeles, and Seattle. In each one of these locations, I have my favorite food.

I took TONS of pictures. As I sort through them, I will post for your viewing pleasure. :-)

What else, what else? Oh yea...I spent time with Henry (my son)...it's always good to see him. He's quite handsome I must say...and has turned into a nice young man. It's kinda a trip to see your baby with a "man" body and man muscles. And, pretty much living his life. And, he's not doing too bad. Gawd. I'm getting old. But, not old enough for grandchildren, so I hope I don't get that surprise before 2015.

Anyway...I'm glad to be back in my place with my things. I will try to post more often...but it's always the same 'ol same 'ol so....

Welcome back, I saw you on youtube and it brought me to this site. Great site, and I love your "attitude", I am sure you need it there in Saudi. I am from Toronto Canada, and will be coming by June 2010 to Dammam to nurse. It will be an interesting time, I am sure.

Hi Terri, Glad to read your blog, it is so interesting and as I said, love your attitude, I am very independent too, I am sure I am in for a "rude" awakeneing in Dammam. I will let you know when I arrive, so I can tell you what I think, LOL, I am sure I will be so "culture shocked". Take care and hope something interesting occurs.

Hey, welcome back Terri! I can certainly agree about the food choices being a bit different here and there and missing them...even when you're visiting a neighbouring country!! :)

Let me preface this story by saying I am addicted to iced tea. A few years ago when visiting the west coast from Alaska to Cali on a cruise ship. I ordered an iced tea on the boat, and nearly spit it out as it was literally cold tea. I know that's normal in much of the States, but in Canada 'iced tea' is usually sweetened cold tea and has a bit of lemon juice in it. I kept forgetting this during the time I was on that boat and kept ordering it out of habit...and spitting it out again before dousing it with sugar packets and slices of lemon.

The other interesting thing I noted on that boat (interestingly enough, this is still about tea), was how the waiters looked at me as if I was an alien when I asked for honey to put in my tea, haha. Apparently that's a Canadian thing too :P

Hi Mel,
No. It's not just a canadian thing. When I make Iced Tea is cold and sweetened....and most people sweetne their tea. It's pretty stupid not to offer a sweetened versus especially since sugar doesn't disolve all that great in a drink that's ice cold. BTW, down south in the US you can get it sweetened. I think it's called sweet tea.

I have read your blog for several months and I can honestly say that it has helped to ease my mind as we prepare to leave for Saudi. I leave the 29th of this month so I am anxious and excited. Are you still in Ras Tanura? I believe that is where my husband and I will be living also. Anyway, your blog is great!

There it goes...there was probably a delay in it posting after my approval...that has never happened before. I thought I accidentally deleted it.

Hi Terri,
How is the "sand castle", lol? I am waiting for my visa now "with baited breath". Found out finally that the compound I will be living in Dammam has nothing around it. I will be at the National Guard Hospital in Dammam. I wonder if I should buy an abaya here in Toronto, seems like now in a part of Toronto we have a "ton" of arabic stores now, lol, seems they all immigrating here now. ???I wonder why? lol. Have a great day Terri, and I hope you having a some better days.
