Doing Better Today - We Got Housing!!

OK.  Today I'm smiling and doing a whole lot better than yesterday.

We got our housing assignment about 2 days ago...but I hadn't seen the place.  The deal is...you get, what you get assigned when it comes to the housing.  But...check it out...I'm totally loving where they've put us.  It's right across the street from the beach.  YES!!  3 bedrooms; 3 bathrooms, nice size kitchen, living room, dining room, front patio and larger back patio.  I have a balcony off the master bedroom, which is huge (big enough for a king size bed and a sitting area); and there's a huge walk in closet (which of course is mine, Roland will have to park his clothes elsewhere :)  ).  I'm 1/2 block from the walking trail that runs along the beach...perfect for rollerblading.  I'm really excited to get in and get settled.  All of the appliances are new, they even put food (apples, oranges, water, juice, cookies, coffee) in the refrigerator for us.  Right now, we're living in Dhahran, however, our housing is located in Ras Tanura; which is about 40 minutes away...but I don't care.  I think I'm really going to like the smaller community.  With one exception...outside of the camp...there is literally nothing worth seeing...so I see myself going into Al-Khobar at least once a week.   So...we're going to move it towards the end of the month.  I can hardly wait to start decorating.  Yea!!!!!!!!

Wow!! it sounds nice. How is the weather? I see gas is cheap. Man I would kill for 5 dollar gas. That would set a sista up pretty nice. Well Keep posting so I can keep reading. It's great.

Girl...I'm tellling you. Because I remember once when I filled up it hit $68.00!! I wanted to scream!! So...the gas price is good. It should be good, this is where it's coming from. LOL Besides, you know our state and local governments tax the hell out of gas. I was just reading an article on how some of the states are losing revenue because people have changed their driving habits, and therefore the states are losing out on revenue. The nickel and diming bastards!! If they can't get you one way...they get you another.

Love reading your blog so far. My parents lived on a compound in Jeddah and I visited a few times so I know a bit about what you're going through. Saudi is a crazy place to be an expat woman! But I've recently married an Aussie and moved from NYC to Melbourne, and even that's been really tough! Best of luck to you and enjoy the experiences. I'll never forget the time a camel trader asked the man we were with to buy me for some camels! Souk shopping is great though.

Thanks Meghan,

I thought I was prepared for the culture shock, as I had moved to Stockholm a few years back. However, this is a whole new ball game.
